What does the "C" in my engine pad serial # mean? (74 BB)

What does the "C" in my engine pad serial # mean? (74 BB)
The serial number (second set of numbers) on the engine pad of my 74 BB is "C14S428222". I know the last six digits are supposed to be the last six digits of my VIN, and they are. I also know the "1" is a place holder, the first "4" is the year (1974), and the "S" means the St. Louis assembly plant, but what does the "C" at the beginning mean? "Corvette"?

I believe the C indicates 'Chevrolet' and the following 1 indicates 'Car Line'.
