Default Starter over heating.

Have a new 74 which ive just noticed when driving around town is some times no wanting to start. Turn the key but nothing there, not even a click. Never does it when cold and the starter is very close to the headers.
Does the heat shield wrap work and can i just wrap and secure with radiator clamps etc?

over from the C2 section. Replace the solinoid on top of the starter, either the windings are shorted or that big brass washer in the sollonoid is pitted..

Also, clean all the wire connections on the solenoid, the starter and the ground (engine and battery).

Yours with no click at all could be connections, get under there and inspect the wires, connectors and clean the terminals. Inspect you battery grounds, engine grounds and again condition. DISCONNECT BATTERY FIRST.

ck for the starter shield. With headers you might want to consider a high torque mini starter which is about 1/2 the size of a stock unit and is not prone to heat soak and by this will keep it away from the headers. Older units just gain resistance in the windings from age and use and when hot do not turn over.
