Default need some leaf spring help

I have replaced the old leaf springs with new yet the holes are not lining up with the trailing arm. The holes are about two inches behind the trailing arm causing the spring bolts to be diagonal. What could cause this problem?

If the spring is in the right place on the rear diff (ie sitting flat and not caught on the lip holding it on an angle) then everything is OK
With the spring arched down and the arms in whatever position they might be things look out of whack.
Only when it's together and sitting that matters
