Default Proper fluid fill for new steering valve

While in the process of restoring the front suspension of my '70, I have decided to replace the steering valve and ram, and have rebuilt the PS pump. What is the best way to fill the system and purge air out? I read just to fill, crank engine and circulate until the fluid no loner foams, and at this point I assume all air has worked itself out. Is there any advantage to filling the system and leaving a lower hose unattached and letting gravity do it's thing? Any other thoughts?

Fill pump. With front wheels off the ground, car supported by stands, engine off, turn the steering wheel lock to lock about two dozen times. The control valve will also need to be centered. Jim Shea has all of this covered here. mike...
