Rebuild, sell or part out?
I hate to even ask this question, but I need advice from people who may have gone through a similar situation.
I have a 68 NOM coupe that was stuffed into a ditch due to bad road conditions. It has a 4 speed, no A/C, 6500 RPM tach, and the emissions sticker giving specs for 400/435hp and 430hp. The previous owner said it was a tri-power before he blew the engine 20 years ago, and that matches.
Including purchase price, I have about $13k in it right now. It still needs a front clip ( I have an ecklers 1 piece already ) and some odds and ends. I am estimating about $4-$5k to finish.
My question is, what would you do? I welcome any suggestions. Thanks

I would keep it. I doubt that you will get your money out of it either parting out or selling out right. Set it aside and work on it a little at a time. I thinl you will be much happier in the long run. Good luck.

Keep it and finish it! As a comparison, numbers matching 67BBs bring somewhere in the $50s+ and the 67 NOM BB cars are picking up in value as a result. I think the same is happening with the early NOM C3s since they only made so many original BB cars which yours is! Plus, you can drive and enjoy it instead of worrying about hurting the original engine. Mine was originally a high option L68 car but the original engine is long gone. As already has been said, you will really enjoy it when it is roadworthy. Good luck!

You might want to contact user "Scott Cooper", he decided to part his 69 coupe out and might be able to give you his experience of it all. It seems like alot of work to me, but for all I know he might have made 2x what he was asking for it.

Hi
The way I understand your post, the original engine is gone ( blown ) ?
Is the tri-carb setup also missing ?
If it's a non matching block with this carb setup missing, the complete car will be at the top going price, once your finished.
Of course, if you still have the original engine complete ( even U/S ) , the market price is a lot higher, as previously posted.
Parting it out will be a hassle and no chrome bumper C3 should be destroied anymore. :smash:
Good luck, Gunther

I'm definitely not a purist, but I don't like to seem them parted out just for the cash either. I would either finish it or sell it to someone who wants to. I can tell you that 4-5k doesn't buy much when you're replacing lots of stuff on these cars. Can you paint it yourself?

Tri-power is gone. There is a 427 with an 830 holley right now. I am factoring in 2k for paint in this equation already. Most of the replacement parts are here already.
I have a rebuilt rear suspension with a 360# spring and offset trailing arms, 295-50-15 tires on the rear, VB&P strut rods, 3.90 gears, 310 deg cam, ls6 rect port heads, all in all it will be pretty hot cruiser if nothing else.
I think I just needed a kick in the pants with this.

I would finish it as well. The only way your going to realize what it's worth is by finishing it.

Check out today's Chicago Tribune Antiques & Classics Car Ads. There's a '68 vert listed for $9500 in Ft Wayne IN with 2 tops that needs paint, interior, brakes due to "years of storage." Sounds like something I'd consider if I 'customized' mine accidentally- get two projects going, make one a cherry keeper and make the other a driver to sell to recoup some cash.

Fix the poor wounded girl! Just think how good it will make you feel when she is done right and you roll her out for the first time  :yesnod:
