Default 76 wont turn over after driving all afternoon

Was driving fine all afternoon, shut off to run into store and car wont turn over. Battery appears to be good as interior lights, clock, seatbelt light and radio work. Starter was replaced with new engine last year.
Any help appreciated.

Bad or hot solenoid, loose starter cable. Good starting points.

Batt functions can all work except the starter if there is a loose connection from batt to starter (as CaseyJones pointed out).

Start with the batt connection (easiest)..... remove, clean, retighten firmly.

Report back.....

Is the factory heat shield in place? After cool down (call it half an hour), does the car start?

Default resolved

went back to car to troubleshoot and it turned over with no problem. Apparently the solenoid overheats on these models. there is a kit to resolve the issue. http://www.madelectrical.com/catalog/st-1.shtml
the car is usually garaged but has been parked outside for past few days in the heat coupled with driving may have caused the issue.
Thanks for the replies
