Default Aw ****!! moment...what to do now...

I noticed my steering seemed to be having an issue, while driving seemed to start wandering. I began investigating and saw two cracks on the right side, rear lower control arm mounting point. Had one of those AW ****!! moments.

I'm looking for someone in the NW Atlanta area that has the experience to fix something like this, assuming it is fixable. The picture is a little fuzzy, but you get the point....

This really made my day....

Ouch, but it'll be OK again. Any good welder can fix that.

A welder can fix that up. Add some gussets for extra strength.

I took another picture with my iphone, which is much better than my $600 camera picture. In this one there's a fine hairline crack running from the upper hole in the bracket at about the 10:00 position, going towards the frame weld.

I'm hoping to find a new bracket, then cut off the old one and re-weld a new one in the correct position. I'm hoping one of the vendors has this stamped part available .

After prepping her for several weeks, now wasn't the time for this as I just registered for the CGCC show on June 22nd. Hopefully I can find someone nearby that can fix this correctly in the next week. I'm not a welder, and as this is pretty critical I want to be sure whoever does it does it correctly.

Nice job, hopefully I can find someone in my area that can do this type of quality work.

I wouldn't cut all that off. Just have a SKILLED welder weld it up, covering all the cracks. Talk to the welder first, and show him your issue.
Best way to do that, sorry to say, is with the engine out of the car, so he can work in there.
What does the other side look like? The brackets that hold the lower control arms to the frame have been known to crack their welds, allowing everything to move around. Look everything over carefully, or you will call your welder back more than once. Don't ask me how I know, it's too painful to talk about.

WOW! That's a lot of cracking! Has your car been hit or bottomed out real bad?
It looks like an easy weld job but I would take the advice given and have gussets welded in....

Any welder should be able to do that but if you want some corvette folks to do it check out american corvettes in powder springs. Lots of folks on this side of town use them.

It can be done with the engine in the car but it may not be as pretty as you like. I had the same thing happen to my 80. Other than ruining a brand new 255/60R-15 BFG Radial T/A it was not too much of a problem. Some careful welding and a good check of the rest of the front brackets was all that it needed to get back on the road.

I thought about them, probably will call them on Monday. Hopefully won't have to pull the engine, but it's got to be done right or I won't be happy.

Was working on it over the winter, the roller jack jammed on a crack in the floor and it fell off the jack at close to full lift. I looked around and didn't see any damage at the time, but now I know there was, it just took some time to show.

I doubt that had anything to do with it. It is very common, especially with the heaver cars or the stiff suspension cars. And, especially if the driver has a habit of racing over speed bumps.

Just weld it up and add some weld to the lower channel that is only spot welded at the factory.
