Default Q-jet parts source

After lots of headaches, I think my carb is jetted to rich. Where is a good place to obtain q-jet rods & Jets? How diffucilt is it to rejet the carb, how far do I have to disasemble (primary, not secondary side). Also my tach cable broke, hard is it to get to the back of the tach to change the cable? hoe tough or expensive is it to convert to electric so I can run a HEI ignition?

Thanks.

P.S. Summer is great, drive your car!! of course that also means fix your car!

1- Q-Jet: I believe Edelbrock sells parts and likely jet kits. Have to ask around at part stores. Also, real mechanics may have a good supply you can maybe trade with. Also try junkyards and salvage shops.

2- Re-jetting is easy, just remove to top part (7 screws, 2 bolts, plus accel pump and choke linkage). Secondary rods are the simplest, just 1 screw, but jets are not changeable. Primary jets are accessible once power piston and float are removed. Can be done in 15 minutes.

You should get a copy of Lars's Q-Jet Tuning paper. it is great.

3- The tach cable is also easy to replace. There is a push-clip release under the dash, and the other end just screws on the back on the dist.

4- Converting to HEI is very common, and easy. I am not familiar with details.

I have ordered some AC Delco carb parts, jets, rods, hangers, from

( editha! I give you the website name and forum softwarre automatically creates a link)
You have to know the GM part numbers. Some of them are in Doug Roes's Qjet book. I think Lars has listed some of the part numbers in his paper(s).

Nowadays, Edelbrock makes Qjet carbs. Visit http://www.edelbrock.com for a list of available jets. The book being referred to is "Rochester Carburetors" by Doug Roe. Got my copy cheap at amazon.com :smash:

I just bought jets, rods & gaskets from these guys http://www.carbs.net/index.htm
They shipped out the same day I placed my order and had everything I wanted. The guy taking my order didn't leave me with the impression that he was the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he got the order right and was a nice guy!

You can get some parts from Edel, but beware if you have a '75+ carb as the primary rods will be the "truck" type which have a .010" thicker tip. Lars had a thread on GM part numbers which can be found at: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=258160

I get my air horn gaskets from NAPA, which is a decent source for Q-Jet parts.
