Many of you were kind enough to steer me away from a possible trade in a few weeks.

I received a call last night from a guy who is coming to pay cash for the car tomorrow as long as everything goes according to plan.
I still want to find a C3 but now I can choose to be more picky with my purchase. I will have $10k for a purchase and live in upstate SC. If anyone has any suggestions on where to begin looking then I would love to have them. I would really like the late 60's early 70's C3 (just like everyone else) with the higher HP and manual transmission.

Hi IB,
You still need to be very careful.
$10k does NOT buy a lot of Corvette in the 68-72 model period.
You need to realize that such a car will take a commitment in time and additional $$ from you.
Most people who buy a needy car later realize (and post) that they should have bought a better car than they did.
Don't get swept up in the "I've gotta have a car NOW" excitement. If a quite nice 68-72 can be bought for $20k, you can be sure there are reasons why one is priced at $10.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Here are my thoughts. $10K isn't going to get you much in Chrome Bumper Land (68-73), because that is what everybody wants. You'll likely end up with a C3 for that year, that might be a driver, but will need a variety of repairs and upgrades, just to get it dependable and even good looking.
I think you oughta aim at what I call the Mid-C3's (74-75), because they aren't that far from the early C3's, interior wise. $10K will get you a pretty decent 1974 Corvette and no, it doesn't have any chrome bumpers, but nobody is going to tell you that it's ugly either.
They're good looking 'Vettes and are readily available, L-82 powered AND with a four speed. You're also not going to be dealing with the Late C3's computer controlled carb or CFI, single exhaust, steel floors and other changes that were made later on.
Example: South Carolina CL
1974 Four Speed car, $7K, needs minor body and brakes, doesn't look bad.

Now a chrome bumper car, just one year earlier, $9,500 and note the condition..., yes it is a Big Block car, 454, but an automatic and the engine needs to be rebuilt and who knows what else?

Found this in the SC ads, for Rincon GA. You might have to travel a bit to get what you want, but it's a 73' in your price range, with a four speed. Inspect accordingly!

1974, four speed car, 23k original miles (asking $15K though...)

that is a beautiful car. Unfortuantely Buffalo is a long way from SC and shipping or travel would cost a good bit. The 74-75 year is still a good looking C3 IMO and the price is closer to my range. I will keep my eyes peeled and place a few WTB adds once I get the cash in hand. Thanks again for all of the help on here and if anyone sees something listed in the SE close to my price range and wish list then please let me know with a reply or a PM>

Yes, and I forgot to throw out a thank you for finding those. I will definitely consider those among any others I find. BTW, what search service did you use to find those or did you just search each CL city individually?

charleston
columbia
florence
greenville / upstate
hilton head
myrtle beach
Clicked on each and then 'Cars and Trucks', by Owner only. Entered "Corvette", because advertisers don't necessarily put an ad, the way you'd think (a 74' Corvette, can be advertised as a '1974 Corvette', '74' Corvette or even 'Corvette'
Wasn't hard, as there's only six areas. I discovered by accident, recently, that adding a "+" to the title, gives you surrounding areas, like this 'Corvette+'.
Good luck in your search. and BTW I own a 74' with a four speed too. Love my mid-C3!

People, people, the proper grammer is '74, not 74'. That's because you're removed the "19" and the apostrophe takes the place of the "19" in your contraction. 74' is shorthand for 74 feet.
