Rubber tips C3 luggage rack
What is the best way to remove the rubber tips on the luggage rack of a C3. I am having the rack chromed and i need to remove the rubber tips without damaging them so I can put them back after the chrome is done.

Hi R,
I believe the tips are made of plastic.
On my rack some of the tips are loose enough that I can pull them out with my fingers; have you checked any of yours?
For the ones you can't pull out try wrapping a strip of duct tape around the tip to protect them and use a pliers to twist and pull the tip at the same time.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

not that this helps, but why doesn't someone make the darn rack out of stainless. they all look like crap in 3 years if they are ever in the rain. and i imagine a rechrome done properly likely costs more than a stainless one would.

They are available in stainless at a higher cost last I looked. Try gripping the tips with rubber like a wide elastic band.

Alan's right, the tips are plastic, and are just pushed into the ends of the tubes.
I wouldn't be to concerned about damaging them. A set of 8 new ones, runs about $10 from most Corvette vendors.
