Default What are good Headers that fit factory side pipes

I have a 68 conv. with the 427 300hp triple duce. What are some good headers to hookup to factory side pipes? I was looking at the Hedman Street Hedders 68210 but having them ceramic coated. The car is a four speed so I want to make sure I dont run into any fitting problems. Does anyone out there have headers on a 427/4sp with factory side pipes?

I'm looking to get new middle/ elbow pipes mandrel bent and a little longer so I can install my covers. The ones I have now are a little short and too low angle on the drivers side.

I sure would like to know how they fit with a 427 and a 4sp. Also is the HTC coating worth it?

I see no reason why they wouldn't work. I've had the small block version installed for over 30 years. They are a good quality header.

On mine there is no interference with the clutch linkage, and they don't seem to be any lower than a regular header.

Is the coating worth it, well, the header would maintain it's good looks for a much longer time. Each time I take mine off to paint them, I say I'm getting the coated ones next time.

I don't think the coating will have much to do with extending the life of the header, however they certainly will look better.

I have not been able to keep paint on mine for more than a few years.

I guess it comes down to mostly a cosmetics decision. What are you willing to pay to have the headers look good for an extended period of time.

Default 68210

My 69 has a Big Block with the painted 68210 Hedmans on it and factory side exhaust covers. They fit PERFECTLY. Also the easiest headers I ever installed.

I got a set of McJacks headers, that fit and sound great. They seem to flow as well as my old Hooker Super Comps and bolted up to the factory side exhaust perfectly

Neat product, but $800.00 for a set of headers? You've got to be kidding? I think I'd keep looking. There has to be something out there that will do the same job for a little less money!

Thanks Barry and Big Block thats what I needed to know. I had just read a post about hooker headers not fitting very good. They were talking about a different style.

Do the McJack's flow better than the cast iron?

I'm assuming the Hedman's perform better than the McJacks due to the longer primary length. Anyone know?

Do the Hedmans and an upgraded pipe, like form Classic Chambered Exhaust, flow better than Hooker Sidemounts with decent inserts?

Thanks.

Weren't the factory sidepipes designed to connect to the factory exhaust manifolds? You would need headers that duplicated the exit point of the exhaust manifold, wouldn't you? Unless you modified the sidepipes, maybe. Am I missing something here? I don't know much about factory sidepipes, but am beginning to look into putting a set on my '80 'vette, so I am interested in this subject.

Default Side Exhaust Headers

Scotty is right. The factory side exhaust will not bolt up to the side exhaust headers, the pipes will have to be cut and the supplied flange welded on.
Under my factory covers, I have Cherry Bomb Mufflers. I like the sound and it is VERY inexpensive to replace. If someone thinks they are too loud, there is room for 2 Cherry Bombs end to end.
There are SEVERAL other mufflers that will fit under the exhaust covers, Torque Tubes is one that I looked at, but I went the cheaper way.

The set I have on my 80' have the sidepipes, center elbow pipes, and header collectors bolted to the headers. Connections are with band clamps. Everything is stainless on mine except the Jet-Hot coated Hedman headers. I have fiberglass covers sitting in the garage for it also.

Thanks for the reply.

I've had midyear pipes on my 69 and they sound great, but the power loss is a question. I have Hookers on now, but am always looking for something that sounds better in the sidepipe muffler department.

If any of you have videos of your custom sidepipe system, it would be great if you would post them.
