Default 80-82 dana rearend cap girdle

Just thought I'd share this with you guys.
I don't think anyone else has done this.
But maybe this helps the rear end cap survive.
Factory batwing with a girdle welded in.

Pretty slick.

I've thought of doing this myself. With the problems of the weak caps on the 80-82 Dana 44s, I'm surpised nobody has tried this before.

Actually no. It's created such a boost in business I am having to hire people to get all the work out. But then I'm not using any imported junk parts in my rebuilds.
It also allows me to not explain why the stud won't work and all the problems it will create.

So the Stud in the op just rides against the stock cap?

The steel cap is only needed on the left side. The force from the carrier is pushing against the cap on the left side and the force on the right side is in the opposite direction pushing against the saddle in the housing.

Mike's steel cap mod works... then you will find the other weak areas in the differential!!!

I've personally done business with Mike in the past. Couldn't ask for a more helpful, knowledgeable person to deal with. I think I know who the liar is.
