Default What is in front of the passenger side motor mount?

Hey,

I am currently working on a 1972 Vette.

Its a base 350.

I was doing motor mounts last night, but some PO put the bolt in the wrong way - cant take it out without removing a disc that is attached to the front passenger side corner of the motor with 4 bolts. It has a vacuum line (with a nice split in it) and a hardline going to the motor on it.

I am curious as to:

1) What is it?
2) What does it do?
3) What symptoms would a cracked hose for that equipment cause?

Here is a pic I found on Google - its the gold object to the left.

Thanks!

Interesting,at first I was going to ridicule the OP,but I guess fuel injection has been around for so long, people may not know what a mechanical fuel pump is.Better do some research before removing it,
even seasoned veteran mechanics struggle with the fuel pump pushrod on a sbc.

Thanks!

FYI - I can tune Megasquirt, and setup full FI systems, just have never worked or been close to a car that is older than 10yrs old

I thought it was a mechanical FP, but all the ones I saw online were 2 hole, this has 4 to mount to block, and its not leaking gas out of the hose, so I was assuming it was vacuum.

Thanks again!

Yeah, that's for the fuel pump mounting plate.
The fuel pump mounts to the top of that plate via the top 2 bolts.
The split fuel line may well be the fuel return line to the tank.

Two bolts hold the fuel pump but two more bolts hold the plate between the pump and the block.

Those two hoses that go to the fuel pump are molded hoses. You can get them through any of the Corvette suppliers. I don't think you could use bulk fuel hose there without it kinking on you.

Nice tip! I was just crawling around under there and noticed a kink in the fuel line. Good to know molded ones are available.
