Default Skip White performance

Anyone ever buy a fully assembled turn key motor from these guys.

www.skipwhiteperformance.com

They seem to have some killer prices, but am a little leary about some of the parts being used. I'm considering one of their 383 turn key deals and looking for any reason why I shouldn't buy one from them.

You can specify dart products with them , I personally would buy a motor from him if I was in need of one. You can even pay to have it dyno tuned with a video and spec sheet .. Your best shot is to call them and see how you feel about there ability to ans questions.

And your right his prices are fair so as i said pay to have it run on his dyno I think that's a 500.00 extra charge.

Im looking at one of his auction house listings and it has been dynoed and all that. Listed as turn key and ready to go from carb to oil pan. The reason I am asking is that I am not real well versed in the right questions to be asking. I know enough to be dangerous and that in and of itself, can be dangerous. If you search 383 stroker on the auction site, it should be the first listing.

Check to see if YOUR engine is dynoed. Usually your combination has been dynoed. Good questions to ask, is it internally balanced, who is the head manufacturer. On an engine pushing 500 HP and over 6000 RPM redline I would insist on a forged crank. Knowing the actual prices of quality parts and quality machine work his prices scare me.

I think this is the one he is looking at . If you are anti P/C heads ask for the dart heads and just pay the difference . Of the reviews I have read most where happy I never read anything like he did not use what is advertised or motor blew up in shipping LOL ....

Well with his warranty which includes cash to pull and replace it seams like a a way to go I like i had said would use his motor I almost grabbed his 427sbc but held off because that would mean a new rear end and other things to handle the power and i aint there yet.

Interesting they list the full brand name of almost every part in the engine EXCEPT the heads, the're just "PC". Wouldn't be Pro Comp now, would it?

He does state he uses Pro Comp Heads. There is also a very long explanation on his experiences with the Pro Comp Heads and why he continiues to use them. I wonder.....

If you read he has Pro Comp exclusive heads which he claims are not the heads you buy on line , there made for him .. BUT if you call and talk to them and ask for the dart heads then you get dart heads.

So to me based on what I have seen , read and checked out he seams as ok as any one else unless you choose a new in the box GM crate motor.

Look at his 427 SBC ,, that to me is a great buy at 7495.00 all top line brand name parts and a good warranty ...

Hard to beat it carb to pan and run in.
Like doing my own but if I didnt know how it would almost be tempting. Head upgrade Id personally do but to ea their own.
Buy pickup and drop in the easiest way.

Damn near everything is made in China these days lke it or not.

If you plan on selling your car in the near term, the advice above is very good.

If you want a good value, find a good builder and customize.

Ive been buying parts from Skip for about 5 years now and no complaints. Ive also bought two sets of pro comp heads, The last set is presently on my 383 motor that includes the stroker kit from white performance(different vendor i confused with skip) The vett getts driven as long as I can put gas in her 12 mpg. I think your safe buying the motor you want.
