Hey guys, I'm doing a frame off on my '81, rebuilt motor and tranny, here's my question, Is it necessary to fill the torque converter with fluid before putting it in the tranny?

Necessary? No. It's not.
Filling it will help with getting fluid flowing across all of your moving parts quicker though.
Filling it is a good idea, but not a requirement.

It won't hurt anything to fill it in the car, but it definitely takes longer, to fill that way.
