Default Got Kicked Off The Dragstrip Today

History- I went racing last spring and ran a best of 11.75 @ just under 115 MPH. I felt like there was more in the car so I went back today to try to improve my numbers. I had added a mandrel exhaust system and a better advance curve.

First run today- 11.78 but I didn't have a good burnout and I spun off the line.

Second run today- Good burnout and hooked well but could have left harder. It felt good though and when I got the slip I was a bit surprised. New personal best of 11.37 @ 119.7 MPH. As I got to the line for another pass the head honcho walked up and said I'd have to slow down because I was running too quick without a rollbar. Well, I was aware of that rule and I was actually hoping to hear those words.

There's no way I wanted to make a pass that wasn't at full throttle all the way down the track, so I smiled at him and asked if he'd allow me one more pass if I parked it after that and he agreed- nice guy. Unfortunately I drove it into the rev limiter on both shifts and slowed to 11.50 @ 119.59. That ends my drag racing career since I'm not interested in adding a rollbar.

I certainly didn't expect to drop 4 tenths or pick up almost 5 MPH but I'm really happy with my numbers. DA had to be good, although I don't know how good. Temps were 55-60 there. I think there's another .01-.02, maybe more, in the car under good conditions but I'll never know.

By the way, I have a Go-Pro vid but it needs editing- too long, and I dropped a joyful F bomb when I saw the 11.37 on my timeslip. The new Youtube format won't allow me to get into video editing mode. Anybody who can help will get a free beer, my treat- just swing by my house to collect.

Nice.
Look forward to the video. I take it you were running slicks? What are you running under the hood?

Thanks. I hope to put it up tomorrow but youtube sucks since they changed their format. Tires are Mickey Thompson ET Street drag radials- perfectly legal and fine for the street but they get nice and sticky when hot. Motor is a very streetable 427- some mods are listed in my sig.

I don't see a sig

..any work on the rear end, or stock? Curious if stock is holding up to those numbers with hooking.

Eagerly awaiting it, Lt. B.. Let me know if you need help figuring out how to use the computer.

Ruth can vouch - when I read "11.37" I said "holy f***" out loud. Good job, man.

Sorry- it's in my initial post. Thanks for reminding me to update it. Rear end is freshly rebuilt by a reputable shop but it's stock. Having an auto transmission helps reduce the shock to it.

Yes sir, I happen to agree with that sentiment.

Thanks. Your reaction was very similar to mine. That part of the vid is actually the best part but I can't post it here. Best to Ruth. By the way, I'm not that bad with computers, smartazz! The transition from youtube's video manager page to the video editing function simply won't work. I can email the unedited version to you if you want.

Thanks. There was a C5 Z06 there yesterday that was running comfortably in the 11s. What's yours running?

Thanks Bill, very nice of you to say that.

Thanks Gary. I like your thinking but I think the car has earned an early retirement from racing. The converter is actually somewhat tight. I ballparked it at 2600 when I first got it but I'm not sure it's really that high. A loose converter would definitely pick up my launch but it's really just a street car and I don't want to lose sight of that.

Les - Congratulations on your new best #s. Wow, 11.37, that is really flying. Too bad about the rollbar thing, you can always make some 1/8 passes to dial it in and then make one full pass, collect your time slip and leave. I believe that's ajrothm's technique.
What was your 60 ft time?
BTW - you can get DA numbers from dragtimes.com. Click on "tools". Every track in the country, any day or time, even going back years so you can see the DA from your previous 11.75 run.

Got Kicked Off The Dragstrip Today!
Awesome!! That means your faster than most. Most dragstrips have test and tune days with no inspections. Run then.

Default Drag Strip

Wow! 11.37. Nice. Man would it be fun to smoke a new Z06.

I might add that the car looks waaay better than a new Z06 too...in my opinion of course

Real cars still have chrome bumpers.

Only a real dingbat would buy a new Z06, especially a blue one.

Thanks! It was at Sacramento Raceway. Race season is just getting started- good luck getting out there.

Thanks Bruce, and also for the DA info. DA last year was around +1800 and yesterday it was around -300. That's why I really wanted to beat the heat this year. 60 ft. was 1.657- another PB, but a looser converter would no doubt improve on that. I look forward to your new numbers after the cam swap.

Thanks mako! This actually was a test & tune day. The guy was really very nice about the whole thing, so I can't complain. Had I slowed down I could have run all day long, but what's the purpose?

Thanks. I like both cars for different reasons but, truthfully, I really didn't expect the 69 to run that number- good fun!

OK, since youtube just won't allow me to edit the vid, for anybody who wants to watch it- go to the main youtube page, in the search box at the top you enter "z28les", and click on my channel. It'll be the top vid. Quality sucks because I had my GoPro on the wrong setting. The action starts at around the 1:00 mark. After the run you can forward to about 3:02 to see me get the time slip. If you listen very carefully you might notice my reaction.
