Thanks for the help. I worked on my 82 this weekend. Pulled the ECM cleaned the terminals and reinstalled. No dice - still have the code 51 on the CEL. Car runs but idles high - about 1400 RPM in Park and 700 in drive (warm engine). Do you think a new PROM will correct the code problem or am I looking at an new ECM too? Thanks

However my car with known bad chip and suspected bad ecm still doesn't idle that high. Mine sits around 800 hot in park and 600 hot in gear. You should check for vac leaks also.
Update:
I realize i never updated this thread and I hate finding information on the internet that has no closure.... So for anyone searching this....
My ECM was bad and the Chip was fried. Purchased a Reman ECM from local parts store for around 100 bucks, Purchased a Hypertech stage 1 chip from the interwebs. Changed both, set the TPS correctly and the car runs fantastic. The notch in the chip should match the notch in the holder (holder should only be able to go in one way) and in the absence of a holder, the notch goes towards the side of the ECM with the number one pin marked.

MAP Sensor
Might want to check the rubber hose from the rear TBI vacuum port to the MAP sensor.
Had a problem once where the rubber hose was rotted in a small spot from fuel vapors causing a vacuum leak and threw the MAP sensor so far off that the engine could hardly run.
After replacing the bad hose, engine fired right up with no issues.

The 84 Corvette is ECM 1226026 for the Auto trans & 1226430 for the Manual trans.
Using the 84 Ecm on the 82 noticed small quirk: The hood louvre solenoid opens and closes when the A/C compressor clutch engages & disengages. Would have to re-pin the harness. Didn't run it for any length of time as was just experimenting with it. The 84 has the slot edge connector also.
See the attached Adobe .pdf file for more info on injectors and sucn.
The #77-5550 is the A1Cardone part # for the GM 1225550.
Don't know what make/year/model the 77-5660 is for.
