Default Garage smells of gas

I changed my fuel pump on my 76 l48 also had my original carb rebuilt now I smell gas in my garage. I'm pretty sure smell is coming out of my carb.? No leaks any ideas why thanks

have you jacked it up and checked the fittings underneath?

yes its dry at all the fittings its like fuel is sitting in my carb?? when i open the hood i get a strong smell i smell by the pump nothing but by the carb and take of air cleaner cover very strong why would there b so much fuel in carb?? thanks tim bob

Your float is probably sticking, set to high or a piece of dirt in the needle valve.

stuiped question how can i adjust my float or even check my pin for dirt . i forgot to mention in my orginal post that the car runs great but if i drive it a good distance and park it for awhile its hard to start maybe like its flooded??? i dont know if thats means anything hopefully i can correct one issue and resolve two thanks tim bob

My '77 does the same. Hard to start shortly after a good warm weather drive. I am not sure what causes this but some have suggested that the plugs on the bottom of the float bowl/mid body of the carb. are leaking. I have not properly checked mine yet. maybe before you check all of that, make sure you gas cap is still on the car and not leaking .... not that I've ever done something that silly as leave it on top of a fuel pump at a Texaco station in Maltby.... but I've heard dumb people do things like that

I had the same issue and searched many forums. It turned out to be my fuel line from my pump to the carb. I changed my fuel line to a teflon lined hose and the smell hasnt came back.

Unless you still have the factory line of coarse.
