Default Anyone put a 4L60 tranny in

I was lolling at the GM performance engine tranny packages and saw good priced LS / 4L60 combos.

Thoughts on tranny fit?

I think you'll have to open up the trans tunnel area a bit. But, that certainly would be a nice combo for a C3. The 4L60E wouldn't be the greatest idea, if put behind a 'vintage' engine; but as a modern combo, it would be outstanding.

The 700R4, 4L60, and 4L60E have the same external dimensions and case. The 4L60E is the electronic controlled version of the 700R4 / 4L60
If you do a search, I think you will find a number of C3s with 700R4s.

Default 4l60 trans

I have a LS1 with 4l60 in my 73.The tunnel does not need to be modified.Your crossmember will work if you slot the holes for the transmission mount. Charlie

I used to have a 700 r4 in my '72 behind a SBC.....I switched to a 200 4r......the 4L60e has the same gear sets in it,

the 700 will use the trans mount with new holes in it, the 200 is about 4" to the rear so the mount is removed from the cross member and trans sets on cross support....

Thanks for the inputs. I've got a 700r4 in my C2 and I thought the dimensions were the same as the 4L60E.

I thinking about going to a 5 speed, but a LS3 combo package is hard to beat.

I was unclear before 4L60e and 700 are the same trans, same rotating mass, just different brains....

IMO the 200 is a much better trans for a shark, better gear set, ~50 lbs lighter, and a direct bolt in.....no drive shaft shortening....

The LS engine package would just run the lockup on the converter.....for a 200 .....

A 700R4 and 4L60 are pretty much the same trans, and are interchangable. The 4L60E is electronically controlled, and needs a computer module. Worth considering, as much easier to tune in shift point's, than messing around with TV cable adjustments.

Should be only about a 10lb difference between a 2004R or a 700R4... if you're doing an LS with ECM I'd just do a 4L60E.
