Default Side View Glass removal

Hey guys,
How do you remove (Without breaking) the glass from the side view mirror? Seems like I read here to soak mirror in brake fluid, been soaking for about 4 hours now.
I replaced the mirrors last year, and when I shut the door last night the glass fell out and broke. Now I'm going to take the glass from the old one to fix it.
Thanks!
-Jay

Hi Jay,
I've read that heating the glass with a heat gun or hair dryer will make the adhesive soft enough to release the glass without breaking it.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Jay,
Soak the mirror in gasoline to soften the bonding agent. Usually it is some type of silicone. The gas will allow the glass to be easily removed. Worked on mine.

FWIW, I was completely successful in removing mine by soaking it overnight in lacquer thinner. No trouble/no scars. Re-installing requires dabs of silicone adhesive on the cast-in posts for bonding.

Good luck - this is a very easy task...

the gasoline worked great. After a couple of hours the glass fell right out.
Then.....
I dropped the stupid thing and broke it!
I shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a car.
