WHAT IDIOT DECIDED TO PUT THE FUSE BOX THERE!
today was my 1st time checking fuses... i think the same idiot that put the gas filler on the right side of cars decided where this should go!
i thought my glove box that has a level bottom so that when you open it, everything falls out onto your lap was the least user friendly feature in my vette but now im not sure...
LOL...oh well....

Re: WHAT IDIOT DECIDED TO PUT THE FUSE BOX THERE! (SIGNGUY)
No kidding Signguy..I thought the same thing too when I had to check my fuses for the A/C too. I literally had to lay upside down in the seat with my head on the floor and my legs dangling over the top of the seat. Let's just say that my chiropractor had a real interesting time adjusting my back.
I'm having a hard time with my AC, I just had it vacuumed, cleaned and recharged with R134a and it's BARELY cold. The compressor is working fine, I just installed a relay switch and my blowers work just Jim Dandy, but for some reason, I cannot get 45 degree air coming out it's 55 at best...what gives?
PS: Thanks for the "posting pictures 101" class you had...as you can tell Picture Judge works just fine! (Gawd, I love my CE!)

The Engineer was 3'- 2 1/4" tall and had 6'- 9 7/8" long arms., with a neck that would stretch 5'-0". He could get in there real easy. I know your problem all to well,:yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: I'm 6'-3" and a little (not much) under 300 lbs.

Re: WHAT IDIOT DECIDED TO PUT THE FUSE BOX THERE! (74Coupe)
Tell me about it! I actually hurt my back screwing around in there. And I'm not even 20 yet! It hurt to move it in a certain way for a few days.
But since we're on the topic: Bubba owned my car before I did, and there are wires all over the place, and almost nothing electrical besides the headlights work. Does anyone have a diagram or picture of the box, so I can tell which fuses are supposed to go where?
Thanks,
Jerry

And yeah, the fuses are a PITA. I'm 5'8" 140lbs and I have to be upside down in the chair to get to them. And then there's the sparkplugs

As the person at the A/C shop said to me: The air coming out of an R134a conversion system won't feel cold coming out of the vents, but it will cool down the cabin. That's one reason I spend the dollar$ to stick with R12 -- a Vette needs all the help it can get!
However, there may be some tweaks you can make to get it colder. Perhaps you should start a new A/C thread...

Actually I don't find it all that much of a problem getting to my fuse box even tho I'm 6'5". I suppose that having the steering wheel and instruments on the RH side of the car does help just a little. :D

Hey we can't leave out the monkey who put the friggin spark plugs in the SB's arm pits. lol... after a few (too many) beers, a bit of swearing, a set of burnt knuckles and about an hour or so of hunting thru the neighbors shrubs for the last ratchet handle to be ejected from the garage in a fit of frustration, I finally got one of those little 25 year old bastards out. :cuss

As for the fuses, It must be corporate policy, I've never had a GM car that didnt put the fuses above the brake pedal - keep in mind this is all prior to my 84 vette which were easy to get to.

Yeah, it may be a bad spot, but why don't you just move it if it bothers you so much?

Re: WHAT IDIOT DECIDED TO PUT THE FUSE BOX THERE! (Buffalo Dude)
Acrually, I was thinking about relocating the fuse box to the Rear passenger side storage compartment... I need to replace the fuse box because 3 or 4 of the slots are melted and I need to rewire most of the dash anyways so I might as well put it someplace more user friendly:) It would also look nice situated with the gold terminal blocks along side all my sterio system fuses once I get my interior done... :D

The assemly line mentallity of the engineers just blows me away. I had an 80 Turbo Trans Am and the heater blower quit working. The only way to get it out was to seperate the inner and outer fenders. The second time the same F^^%$#@ blower motor went south, Ol Jerry got out the 6" holesaw and made an access hatch.
I feel your pain.

I agree it's a beast to reach, but where else would you put it? It's in the best location possible considering the sheer number of circuits and wires that run to the dash and instrument cluster. If you move it to the rear, you'll end up with long runs to every circuit in the dash.

So I take it you don't like to stand on your head in the Vette with a flashlight in your mouth?
And I'm not saying I ever did something like that........
