ZL1/Motion Stripe Dimensions
Does anyone have the correct dimensions for the racing stripe used on the Motion corvettes and the WHITE ZL1? This is not the 'V' stripe the yellow ZL1 had on the hood - those drawings are in the AIM, but I need the stripe that starts with a blaclout on the whole tail of the car and tapers into a single wide strip along the roof and down to the hood, where it blends into the L88 hood. I have the Hotwheels 1/18 scale Die Cast and I've taken a few measurements, but who knows if the company in China did a reasonable job of getting a good replication.
I'm seriously thinking of using this stripe on my L71 but in bright silver/black instead of white/black.
Help!

Re: ZL1/Motion Stripe Dimensions (69L71)
I don't know them, but I have some pictures of a blue/white stripe car.
I have side, back and front pictures....and its the type that bleeds and covers the rear end of the car in the color of the stripe on the front.
I'll email them to you to have as a template with the ones you have.
These are very close and detailed pictures...I can't stress how much I like the design ! check your email ! :yesnod:

The width of the stripe depends on which hood you have. If you have the motion style hood with the stinger scoop mounted on top then it is the width of the stinger portion. If you use the L88 hood, the width is the same as the inside of the hump.
For the back, the vertical line splits the sidemarker in half and follows the contours of the back of the fender (slightly angled back).
Hope this helps.

Re: ZL1/Motion Stripe Dimensions (70 LS1)
Nice pics LS1! What is the width of the blue and white secondary stripes?
Looks like the trick is gonna be to get the right radius of the curve where it tapers from the back into the stripe. keeping the main and secondary stripes even might take some patience....

To give you an idea, my stripe is BM inspired and 15.5 inches wide, then 1/4 inch space and then a 1/4 inch stripe. I have an L-88 hood and the stripe that's painted on the white car above must be about 21 inches. Is the stripe the same width all the way back?
Also my stripe isn't curved in the back but the stripe is at a 90 degree angle.
OOOPs! I forgot the pic:

That´s interesting.....
As you probably remember I told you some time ago that I love that painsceme too. It looks fantastic
But on your car the stripe doesn´t end at the rear. It goes rightangled into the lower sidesection of the car (which is painted in a different color than the upper side section).
The paint sceme of the blue vette isn´t splitted on the side.
Which way is the original one?

The blue car is an original Baldwin Motion phase III car so the stripe would be the authentic motion stripe. On the later motion cars there was a spear that went almost to the front wheel the same color as the stripe. Here is a picture of a 74 Motion car.
1970 Stingray's beautiful car looks like a combination of the 78 silver anniversary paint scheme and the motion stripe.

Re: ZL1/Motion Stripe Dimensions (ylose)
ylose---Thanks, but she still need a lot of work, $$. If it were up to my wife though, the vette would be gone.
Markus_P---From what I've been able to gather, my paint is a mixture of BM inspiration and '78 Silver Anniversary. I don't claim that it's an original BM or even a clone. The '70 was painted this combo when I bought it. :yesnod: Actually I like the stipre on my '70 better than the Original BM's with the stripe continuing down the side.

Re: ZL1/Motion Stripe Dimensions (69L71)
Although not original, mine had a stripe EXACTLY (except for the top, obviously) like 70LS1's on it in a previous life. Originally Burgundy, then metalflake green with that white stripe on it, then resale red. All evidence of it is missing from the hood, but it was still faint on the rear before I sanded it off.

Re: ZL1/Motion Stripe Dimensions (Wrencher)
Just an FYI if you are going to paint this stripe yourself:
If you buy a roll of stick-on pinstripe you can use that to make the secondary stripes. Here's how. I'm sure you all have seen that pinstripes that have a thick line and a thin line above it. If you check, the thick stripe is 1/4" wide and the space in between is also 1/4". If you outline our stripe with this pinstripe (thick line toward your stripe), and then mask from the thin stripe outward, you will get perfect spacing of your secondary stripe in relation to your primary stripe. Once painted, you just peel the stick-on pinstripe off. At that point, you can do whatever you like to smooth the stripe and clearcoat or whatever. The only trick left is to get the primary stripe straight. The secondary stripe will follow.
Just a tidbit I picked up over the years.

Thanks LS1 for the awesome pics  I've always loved the older BM paint jobs....never knew they painted the later ones with a stripe going back to the front wheel though. Very

Re: ZL1/Motion Stripe Dimensions (MARKUS_P)
The Motion stripes changed year to year and even car to car.
The white ZL1 has a Motion stripe but the car has no association with Motion.
here are some links http://hometown.aol.com/yenkochevelles69/page3.html
James Gardner used a similar stripe on his C3 race cars http://www.airl88.com/
