I design my personal motors to be able to driven in stop and go traffic on the hottest days and it potentially will go 10's in the 1/4 mile, not much in Europe will beat it, it is a 3-4 second 0-60mph Vette because I don't shift I rev to 7000+ RPM's in first gear with the 3.08 rear end. Even the $100,000 plus supercars you will have no problems with. And it is in a smallblock package. Around here there is nothing that will touch it, superbikes will be close in the 1/4 mile but I will pass them before 1/2 mile
I get 24 mpg on the highway with the TKO 600 OD transmission

Edelbrock makes a street tunnel ram for big blocks with oval port heads that has pretty good street manners for a tunnel ram and makes pretty good power too.
Making 500 hp with a tunnel rammed big block would be very easy.
I would check with http://www.vortecproperformance.com and see what Mark can do for you.

Rick, you are amazing thanks to this post, I have a complete to do, or rather to buy list by the way, I have found a shop in Germany that specializes in V8, so they could put it together and tune.
So my budget does not let me to buy a supercharged engine. I want to pay tops 15 000. More does not make sense for me.[/QUOTE
Back in the mid '90's I put together a 6-71 blown 502 big block that I ran in a '66 coupe. It was extremely reliable. You can put a similiar combo together today for well under $15K. A 502HO big block crate engine (P/N 12568778) is available for right at $6500. ( do a google search, you will find several firms selling them for around that price). It uses a Callies steel crank, forged rods, and J.E. forged pistons, along with a hydraulic roller cam. Compression is 8.75:1, perfect for a blower. Complete specs/info can be found at www.chevroletperformance.com. This is a standard deck block based on the 454. This motor makes 450 hp, and over 500 ft lbs of torque, without any blower installed. The engine has a good warranty. To this assembly, add Weiand's polished blower assembly p/n 7483P which is available complete from www.summitracing.com at $3209. You still have money left for carbs, headers, shipping etc. This package will make WELL over 500 reliable HP- you control the amount of boost via your blower drive pulley selection.

By the way, if I will go with 502HO big block, will my headers fit? I bought a set of side exhaust with them and I am wondering will it work.

Melting Slicks
my GUESS is they won't because the 502 uses a tall block design (1/2" taller deck). The 502 may (depending who you buy it from) also use raised ports which would make it about 3/4" off
That said, 496 cubic inches aren't too hard to get out of a standard deck 454
