Default Steering stabilizer/Borgeson = Win

I've got another thread going where I discuss the Ridetech Borgeson Brace. 100% recommend it. I've just added a stabilizer/damper and it really improved my bumpsteer.

My car is lowered in the front and its my understanding that bumpsteer increases when you lower a car. So this may not be a problem for everyone.
Car drove fine on smooth roads but uneven pavement caused lots of vibration in my steering wheel.

I decided to add a stabilizer. The mounting points from the factory PS unit were not being use so it bolted right in without issue.

Car now drives better than ever. Feels like a new car. I was thinking about installing a bumpsteer kit but not anymore.

Long Story Short: If you have a bumpsteer issue and a Borgeson unit try adding a steering stabilizer.

Thanks for the suggestion! Can you post a photo? I have a C2/Early C3 manual steering center link that came with the steering damper (68 may have been the last year). I hadn't thought to try this, though.

Diagram of factory PS setup.

Replace unused Power Cylinder location with this.

I'm sure you can find several that fit. But I used this one.

Correction: That part number is not correct for the stabilizer. I'll try and find the right one. Sorry for any trouble.

Yes. The '68 car had a steering stabilizer on it. No other C3's had one installed, however. I imagine that some serious driver enthusiasts didn't like the 'feel' of the road removed by it.

Did you manage to find the correct part number? I'm definitely interested in trying this out.

FWIW, here's the original version:

https://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corv...1963-1968.html

GM Part Number 22011964

Perhaps someone with better Google skills can find a cross-reference.

My comment / question on using a steering damper is that this is fixing the feel in your hands of bumps on the road, but not really addressing bump steer. Bump steer is a change in the steering geometry and is an issue with lowered cars due to the change in the tie rod angle when the car is lowered. Installing the damper softens the feel but has absolutely no effect on the geometry, and therefore does not correct that problem. Bump steer can be a serious handling detriment when it happens at speed. My point is that installing the damper will help with driving feel of a lowered cruiser, but does not correct the handling issues.
Hopefully one of our more astute performance suspension members will respond to this to either correct me or provide a better explanation.

Yes. this is all that I'm saying. Sorry if my post came off like a bumpsteer cure.

I still don't have a part number. The one I used came from Summit years ago and was just laying around my garage.
I got it confused with a Bilstein I ordered for my truck last year.

Here you go. Paragon has it. https://www.paragoncorvette.com/p-35...shock-kit.aspx

Info per paragon website:

Paragon Number: 1991K

GM Part Number: 3178100

This should bolt right onto your relay rod. It did on my 68 when I had manual steering.

And this thing looks like it comes with hardware.
