Great choice Erica! You'll love the black when she's nice and clean, now keeping it that way is a another story! I love my black 77' just waxed it today, it's looking good :D I also removed my luggage rack, I like the look much better, I'll miss having a place to put the T-tops though.
Also have you seen the new 77' forum? Moskovita and Ganey have done a great job putting it together. Come and join the party! Good luck with your paint job and be sure to let us in on all the details. :seeya

Erika, black looks great. But it's very hard to paint. And I mean very very hard. It's the hardest. I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't. But think about it. Black will show every imperfection. Lighter colors hide better.

GrandSport--Something tells me you miss her. Everytime I see a sweet 69 with chrome gills, I wish I had stuck to my original plan to get one.
Erika--It's going to look great. :yesnod:

Hey Erica!
Whew!
I feel ALOT better about this now. Spraying REAL candy for a first paint job would have been...well............insane! It takes painters a while before they can shoot those jobs correctly. I shot one years ago and it was pretty challenging to get everything even. I typed out a response a couple times but I didn't want to burst your bubble!
With black paint you can be much much less careful and the panels will match and there will be no zebra stripes or blochies. Just make sure you get good coverage.
The others are correct. You WILL see every wave or mistake in your body work when spraying black. What I usually do with ANY color is block the body until I think it's perfectly straight. This may take a few primer coats. Then I do it 2 more times. Even then sometimes I'll get a wave I missed but they are usually very minor. Because your shooting black, if you end up with a bad panel that you can't live with, at least you would be able to redo it without painting the whole car. You CAN"T do that with candies.
Good luck!!

Here's another view of owning a black Vette. It's from the FCR guys, so  http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=308311
I had only one black car, a '67 Firebird Formula 400, and won't make that mistake again. It was a royal PIA to keep clean.

The only reason that I sold the 69 was becasue of the automatic. I wished I had a stick shift with overdrive... However - when I had the 69 - I didn't know anybody that could help me on how to convert automatic to stick... I didn't know about this forum... However - I am happy with my 68. The interior with the Phantom gauges and the Pace Car style seats is so much nicer than the stock interior in my 69. However - those chrome vent covers were NICE. I might get some for my 68!!!
