Default Hazard and Turn Signal Capacitors

I'm troubleshooting my lights on my 1972 Vette. So far I replaced the turn signal switch and turn signal flasher. The symptoms have improved so I'm headed in the right direction. I noticed the turn signal and hazard flasher have capacitors in parallel with them. What do those capacitors do and do I need them?? Thanks.

Those capacitors are 'radio noise suppressors'. They prevented the "pops" and "clicks" in the radio speaker output when the signals flashed. If you still have the original Delco radio in the car, you may need them. But, only for objectionable noise from the radio...not for any other reason.

If you have a much later model radio head, it will already have noise suppression circuitry built into the electronics, and you likely won't need the suppression capacitors.

Bad capacitors could mess up your turn signals, their only 39 years old.

I got everything working now. I had to replace the turn signal switch, turn signal flasher, and clean the up the ground. The lights work like a champ, now I need to troubleshoot the vacuum lines so they actually pop up.
