81 corvette 350 motor
I just put a new edelbrock 1406 carb on my 81 vette 350 engine and when i went to start it up i found that my battery was dead. After recharging the battery and pouring some gas in through the top of the carb it started and ran for about 30 seconds before shutting off again.
p.s. I put a new fuel filter in and its clear and i do not see anything coming through the line.

You may have a vacuum leak
Would it idle on its own for any length of time?

Was the car running before you changed the carb? Ya gotta tell us this kinda stuff, we're not psychic, ya know. Psychotic, maybe, but not psychic.

and if it helps i recall when i got it running it was running very rough possibly a tuning issue however the cab came pre tuned for this motor so it shouldn't be that bad. and I've also noticed no fuel coming throughout the fuel line

I'm with the computer guys. Pulling that electronic q-jet will make the computer very angry and that angry computer is what bosses your dizzy around. If you want here to run well with that catbpull that fancy oddball dizzy out and install a simple vacuum advance hei dizzy. Or you can do what I did and just pull the whole motor and go sbc high compression crate crazy haha

do you have the squarebore Edelbrock carb sitting right on top of the spreadbore intake, or did you use an adapter plate?

I don't think this has anything to with the computer. The ECM in the 81 controls some aspects of the original carb, the distributor and the converter lockup, and the emissions. Taking the carb out of the loop will set the check engine light, but the car should still run. I'd check to make sure your getting fuel to the carb. You can do this with a pressure gauge, or, fill the carb with fuel, disconnect the fuel line, direct it into a can and see if the pump is pumping fuel when the engine is at idle. Or just change the fuel pump.
