Default Anyone using cold air box on long L88 Hood?

I am finally getting around to installing the cold air box on my long L88 hood. Thought it would be just like the standard L88 hood, except that I would have to cut out the opening at the back of the hood. Unfortunately, the cross support at the back of the hood seems to be completely different. Has anyone mounted this box to the long hood? I would like to know which parts you cut on the box and the hood support to make it fit. I don't want to just start hacking.

Your responses and photos would be greatly appreciated!

Chuck

Chuck, I think Zwede and Bob Turner are using the long hood. I know this had Bob puzzled and at that time Zwede had already cut the rear opening.

Hoepfully they'll chime in here. I'm using the short hood.

Chuck, I have a plan. When he shows up at the dyno day, I'll distract him while you make the switch :jester

Les, Are you still coming out there to hang out with us? Don't worry!! If he does switch hoods, I'll be happy to distract him while you switch them back :jester You see, I don't take sides. I'm just happy to help everyone :jester

I have the long hood, but my box was already in place when I bought the hood. Drop me an email or respond here if you want me to take a closer look at the opening at the base of my hood. Btw, good to hear you guys will be running on the dyno next week. Should be some good numbers.

Sounds good Tom. I'll need to do a little tweaking of my schedule to make it there & will only be able to stay for a bit- what would be a good time to catch you guys? Also, I've never been there, so do you have directions to Apex? Feel free to email me if you want. Thanks big fella.

Doug,

Thank you very much for responding!! Is your air box the factory L88 style? Do you need to have pictures of mine to identify yours?

Hey, I run at about noon, I was hoping to get my hands on your non-Pinto hood before then! I promise to be gentle  It'll be great to see you. Your car is what I hope mine will look like after it's painted. I'm now told that because of delays Bill has postponed this til sometime in July :(

I didn't compare it side by side to a factory hood, but other than the length, it looks like the original underneath. I have the L88 bug catcher/air mesh on the carb and a K&N in the hood.

Chuck,
I'll hunt down a Pinto hood & drop it off the day before for you. Actually, I'd sure like to be there to see you guys on the dyno- I'll try to swing by in time for that & leave Apex by 1:00 or so. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing you guys. As for your paintjob, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. For what it's worth, I just talked to the shop that did my car & they're pretty slow right now due to the economy. I still need to swing by there & pick up my stock hood. Small world- they're only about a mile or two from Apex.

Well, change of plans- the 1:00 slot opened up & I took it. I'll need to check on a couple of things to make sure I can make it but it looks pretty good. You guys just need to promise to hold your laughter about my numbers until after I leave :bb :bb :bb

Well, I just left off my hood with Bill White to attach the cold air box for me. He hopes to have it done by Thursday, in time for Dyono day. Les, your car is safe, for now.:D Byt the way Les, don't worry about laughter, I could be in for some serious humble pie. I hope to check the valve lash before I go, but my jetting is strictly seat of pants. I have a line on some good racing gas, but it's leaded and that probably won't work with the a/f sensor used at the shop.

Anyway it should be one heck of a great day!

Chuck,
You could be a dozen jet sizes off on all 4 corners & still bury the numbers on my mild lil motor...but as you said, it'll be alot of fun just doin it. See you there
