Can somebody tell me what this is
Or what caused this? These lifters were put in back in Aug/Sept. and have MAX 350 miles on them! I'm in the middle of changing my cam. Was not expecting to see this! They are smooth, My finger nail does not detect any groves what so ever. But half of them have these marks.

I would bet that it has something to do with the lifters themselves.
Maybe they weren't truly round, and had high spots on the lifter bodies that were polished during use.
I see one lifter that is a different design than the others, and it doesn't appear to have those marks.

What does the face of one look like? Is the cam creating a wear pattern? I'm kinda going with a cam and lifter mismatch. Vanice could be right about no rotation.

You are correct, the other 4 to 6 that are different do not have the marks. The bottom of the lifters are fine, no wear at all. Kind of looks like a starburst if you really look hard, (from them rotating on the lobe) So I know they are rotating, but the marks are a mystery. I placed my pinky in all the lifter bores, they all appear smooth as a baby's a$$. LOL.
Reason that 4 or 6 are different, NAPA didn't have a full 16. They said the NEW ones replaced the ones with the ring in them. That they were the same.

That is just poor machine work on the lifter body! Nothing to do with the bottom surface/rotation or anything else, just was not ground smooth and your seeing the high spots wearing on the bodies.

I hope you do not intend to install those lifters on the new cam?
