Default Best Radiator Fans for a 350 Small Block?

So we are nearing the final stages of getting my 75 back up and running and the last thing I need to buy (fingers crossed) is the electric fans that go over the radiator in order to eliminate the mechanical fan.

The question I have is, what were the fans other members have installed, type, brand, price? What issues have you found? What has worked for you?

I gonna buy these really soon, so your input is appreciated.
Thanks!

If you want the best, Spal. I have had the Dual unit for several years without a single issue and it never overheats.

Ditto on the Spal fans, With the DeWitt radiator, you can't beat it

Not really and issue, just get fans that cool the engine instead.
I bought two 12" fans off EBAY and they drop the temp faster than the gauge can drop.

Is there a noticeable change in the sound of the engine with the mechanical fan gone ? Like, is the vacuum cleaner-like sound gone ?
Also, if I make the swith to electrical, how difficult is the radiator swap/fan installation ?

I think many here have used the newwer Corvette fan and also a Mark 8 fan. So if there is a salvage yard near you can do that. Not a simple bolt on item if I remember correct.

Here is the rad that I have. It is a Chinese aluminum one off eBay. I bought it when I didn't know any better, BUT its worked pretty well. Will the SPAL fans attach to this one?

If you are interested in retaining a belt driven fan, I have a Flex-a-lite 7 blade 18 inch fan. It has never been used and has large stainless blades to move a ton of air. It comes with a variety of spacers so you can get the right distance from the radiator. $35 + shipping.

your fan is probably fine. the fact you have no fan shroud is your trouble. that fan with no shroud is sucking air from everywhere except the one place it should be...your radiator.

What's the benefit from running two 10" fans for an A/C car vs one 16"?? Are you not cooling a larger surface area with the 16" Looking at the numbers yes 20" is larger than 16" but with the 10"s in two different locations wouldn't that leave more area of the radiator not covered??

The benefit of 2 fans for AC is not about comparing the power of a single large fan from two smaller ones , nor covering more area its about the control and adjustment the owner can have over 2 fans apposed to 1. By that i mean you can wire them separate through separate relays so that one can be used primarily for AC and the other through a controller / Thermostat to come one when needed for rising engine temps...something that cant be done with just 1 fan. The power draw on a single 16" spal compared to a 10" is 3 fold. Some also like the set up of 2 fans that if one fails they have a back up if its a fan motor problem and fair enough.

But who am i to say , i have ac and run a single 16"spal. if ac is on the fan is on .

These duel flexies ones work well.

But the left one broke after 4 months.

underneath

An email to techy dept. revealed that maybe because I run a mechanical fan as well it may be pulling too hard on the duels

Reason for mechanical..cheap insurance..it wont blow a fuse or fry a controller unit wilst I'm looking at *** instead of a guage

That's a good thought gingerbreadman the reason I ask is because I can get the two 10" fans for free from a friend.

If budget is a consideration, then either used Taurus or Mark VIII fans are good reliable choices. I used a Taurus fan. Either can be wired with the correct relay to include the A/C trigger.

Dual or dual speed fans obviously add to the wiring complexity.

I've been thinking of using the Taurus or Mark VIII fan since i see so many run here.

But I have read some say certain years are duel speed and others not. Is that true and what years are best to get?

None. The alternator has to work harder to produce the electricity to power the fans. Nothing saved.

Right now I'm running the factory setup with an added 14" fan inside the shroud opening with no problems what soever other than the clutch is going bad. BUT, when I take off the mechanical fan and just run the electric at idle it runs hot. That's one reason I'm looking into just electric fans (for more space under the hood) and I have to buy the clutch or I can get the electric ones for free. Also, if you run electric fans whether 1 or 2 should you also try to use a shroud for them??
