Default My baby will not turn over

Alright Team,

Its that time again. So I drive to AutoZone yesterday, shut down the car to run and buy some parts , then came back out to start up and cruise off, only issue was there was no start. BOOOO… After moving wires around nothing made it turn over so I crawled my happy azz under the car and started it with a flathead. Here is what I am facing at this time.

When I turn the key all power is there. Radio and all.

Its not the Neutral safety switch (I think) because I can hear it click when I turn the key to the start position. (location center console)

I moved the gear shift around while holding the key in the start position but no luck turning over

Checked battery connections, they are both good on the battery.

I am looking for a wire diagram so I can trace all wires and ohm / check voltage.

Any ideals are much appreciated.

Neutral safety switches do not make a clicking sound.
There is a relay in the same area as the NSS. That is probably what you heard.
Did it start when you got it home?

No, it did not start when I got home. I am about to go back out right now and see if she will start. So it could be the netural safety then!!!

When you turn the key to the start position, pay attention to the interior lights.
If they dim some, voltage is getting to the starter circuit.
If no change I would say it is the NSS. Maybe came unplugged.
Another thought,
turn key to on position, put shifter in reverse and see if your reverse lights come on.
NSS and reverse lights same switch.
block the wheels so car doesn't roll away.

Clean the battery terminals real good.
My GTO did that to me last summer.
Must have started a dozen times that day before it decided not to start.
It was my battery terminals.

You may want to cheque the ground cable from the battery to the frame. Also cheque the wires to the sylnoid for a break inside the plastic covering.Happened to me in my 77.The car would start when cold but was dead when hot.The heat made the wire cover expand and lost contact with the copper, when cold ,contracted made contact.Thought it was the starter and when my hands hit the wires when chequeing the starter ,found the problem.

Put a test light on the solenoid wire,at the starter... have someone else turn the key; if the light lights and no start it's the solenoid. If the light does not light, your problem is upstream, key switch, neutral safety, wiring or connection.

You shorted the solenoid wire to start it with the screwdriver, right?

Yes, I hit the two studs off the solenoid with the key in the on position. She starts fine now! I will get her hot an hope she does the same, not start so I can perform some operation checks. Thanks for the great advise.
