Under the Shift Plate
...in my '75 Coupe there are a few unused connections. There are also two lights. One has a bezel that makes it's connection obvious. The other light is a mystery. This particular light, when the light switch is pulled and I touch the connector against a metal surface comes on. Otherwise it just lays there.
Could someone explain the connections and the lights that are hidden by the shift plate?
Thanks...

The only two lights I know of would be the side of the lighter receptacle had a small light so you could see where to put the actual lighter back in, and then the one for the PRNDL (auto of course)

one light goes into the side, clips onto, the lighter. and the other light goes into the heater/AC controller. I'm sure on an auto there is a light like mooser is talking about for the PRNDL lens of the transmission. There are a few connectors in my 72 4 spd that dont get used like the large purple wires that would be for the neutral safety switch on an auto car. Doc Rebuild has great documents with pics and detail on all wiring schematics. I use mine all the time. I'd suggest getting them. Touching the light to a metal object in the car completes the circuit and grounds the socket allowing the light to come on. Most of the dash lighting is done this way and that's why you see only a single gray wire going to the socket.

Thanks... Now the issue is that I have no clip, just a light in the socket. Is it special? Is it the same size as the clip for the lights to the tach/speedo?
Thanks..
Thanks..
