Default Helped needed 2 install clutch Z bar -1980

Am about to install a 4 speed in my factory automatic 80 model.
I have what I think is all parts needed.

Looking for the holes to install the clutch Z bar bracket to the frame. I just dont see the holes that are "suppose" to be there.
Are the holes forward of the brake proportioning valve ?
Frame top I assume ?
I only see 1 hole, it has a brake line strap& bolt into it.

The Z bar ball stud (opposite end) - does it install into the motor block, or the bell housing itself ?

Thank you in advance for any help .

I have an assembly manual, and a shop manual. Can not find the answer to my questions in either book.

I believe in 1981 the Z bar frame bracket is a bolt on so you should be able to order one and bolt it in. Also the ball stud goes into the side of the block casting.

My 79 did not have bolt holes. Welding is much faster. Just mock it up where it needs to be and cover the brake line with a wet cloth and run a couple of beads

That's what he's asking, where exactly is the holes?

correct, '79 doesn't have the holes, but his '80 should

Mike, if you know the location of the block ball stud, I would think the bolt holes for the bracket would be directly across from it on the frame.

qwank- you're right. I found the holes. I called the man that sold me his complete conversion set. He guided me in a accurate step to find them. The holes were blocked by an electrical loop. Once I found the correct stud hole in the engine block, the bracket holes were easy to spot.
All this time, i thought the ball stud went into the side of the bell housing. Live and learn, I guess...
Thank for the help guys.

Starting on mine in about 10 days . Stay tuned.

Default Z bar Bracket Junk

The Z bar bracket I rcvd for my conversion was just plain junk! It was bending when the clutch was pressed.[IMG][/IMG]

Installed a much stronger bracket from forum member V8RANGER.
[IMG][/IMG]
No more funky clutch problems after that, and the clutch feel was greatly improved.I completed an auto to manual trans swap last year.Good luck with your project....

I'm glad you found the holes. I should be starting my conversion on the 14th if everything goes well. Good luck!
