Summit copied the Holley 4010/4011 series, Holley copied from the Ford Autolite 4100 carb.
The Ford guys think this design is one of the best carbs ever.


Haven't used the Summit, but if it is at least as good as the Holley or Auto lite, then it's a great carb.
The Holleys could be fine tuned for good gas mileage.
I have the Holley spreadbore double pumper version and yes the fuel intake ports can be a problem, but Summit has fixed that in theirs.

For most of us all around driving is what's most important.

Have not calculated MPG yet as I pretty much only drive the Vette on the weekends.I can tell you that it is a whole lot better than what was on there before the change.Vette at cruise speed is using less throttle,the plugs are looking much better,and I only used a 1/4 tank of fuel on my weekend jaunt,that used to take about 3/8 of a tank.I can shift into 6th gear a lot sooner than before and no more heat soak after shutdown.Even though it is warm year round here,the choke really helps to start the motor fast,a quick turn of the key and she rumbles to life.
Since the Vette is running so good I plan to take the car up the coast this weekend,so I'll have some actual numbers after I filler up on the return.After struggling with the old carb for so long trying to get it to run right ,it's just a joy to have great running motor!! Well spent 200.00 plus dollars...

I contacted Lars and he quoted me $180.00 to do my Q-jet.

Conversion to TBI $900.00 there abouts.

My Edelbrock 750 runs great but the MPG is really lacking.

Looks like the Summit Carb. may be just the ticket.

We'll have to wait and see.

I don't doubt the results of iokepakai's excellent study, but there is no better deal in the world of carburetors than a $180 Qjet rebuild by Lars.

It's a real nice carb. We installed it on my friends 1974 Monte Carlo with the original 2BBL 145 HP 350, coupled with the edelbrock intake, it really made the car like new. It runs much better in every fashion and is MUCH faster than before.

i bought this carb and had a hell of a time with it... i have a preformer intake.. the fuel line dumps right into the heater hose.... i also had isssues with the vacuum lines.. the line coming out of the intake behind the carb had to be plugged because there wasnt enough room... this carb hit it... it did start right up but im guessing the chokes not working right cause it stalled with low idle... im gonna jump back into it tomorrow.. im worried that just 1 vaccum port for the headlights and heater controls isn't gonna be enough....

does he sell them outright or is it , send to be rebuilt.?

He only works on Virgin Q-Jets.

If they are commercial rebuilt he won't touch them.

I don't know if he has cores.
You send him yours he fixes it and sends it back.
You pay when he's finished.

I have the same setup as you. I had to grind the top and the corner of the vacuum port to clear the back of the carb.

Summit also makes a 750cfm for just a few dollars more.

I too have installed this carb and I am pleased with the result. I like others installed it onto a Performer Intake Manifold and did have a few issues to resolve:

1) due to double pump configuration, the carb does interfere with the vacuum fitting. Edelbrock makes a fitting for this installation that solves the issue, part number 8096.

2) fuel line does cross right into the heater hose at the front of the manifold. I used a 90 degree fuel inlet filter to get around the heater hose and that took care of that issue. I purchased the filter from Jegs, it has AN-6 fittings, it fit well and solved the need for an inlet filter as well.

Carb has been flawless since initial install no problems other than some tweaking of the idle mixture.MPG's have been great close to 20 average when I keep my foot out of it...
