New best ET, 60ft and MPH on Saturday
Went to the track Saturday figuring I could get new bests out of the car. Air was good, high 40s & 30+ barometer. I changed secondary metering rods to richen it up and brought other rods to richen it more. After a little tweaking, new best numbers:
ET: 12.40
60ft 1.70
MPH: 107.80
Time slips for those runs:
Specs below at the bottom of the signature, if anybody is curious.

Sounds like this winter is a good time to install something like a XE274 cam!

billla - Thanks.
gkull - I am thinking of trying the XE274 cam. I want to stick with the flat tappet cams. Not looking to have the quickest car on the forum - far from it now. Before I try that though I'm planning to try 1.6 roller tip rockers. That will bring total lift to .500. I'm going to try that on the street for a while before the roads get too bad. Let's see if my present cam can handle that.

When you are talking about .470 lift with a 1.5 rocker and .501 with a 1.6 rocker. You have to be realistic in expectations. .03 of an inch is relatively insignificant in additional flow. Duration needs to go up to fill a 383

Robb - Yeah, in my imagination that's what I'm doing. My car is a lot quieter though.
gkull - I'm not expecting much from the rocker change. Just experimenting really.

Nice job! You are continuing to widdle your ETs down. I am not sure of the specs on the XE 262 but guessing from the specs on our XE268(224/230, .470/.490 ish) that the 262 is likely under 220*@.050... That is just killing that 383 up top.... If you are going to stay hyd flat tappet, and you're keeping the Vortec heads, there is no point in going too big but... I would shoot for maybe a 228/232 ish and however much lift you can get in there with the Vortec guides etc.. ATLEAST .500/.520...Get it on a 110 lsa. Something like that would probably pick you up 40-50hp...(3-4 mph or more)
If you could go hyd roller conversion, my buddy runs a custom ground Bullet... It is 224/232 on a 110 lsa, .550/.570 lift. It has a really smooth idle, made 490hp in a 10.8-1 383 with some home ported Dart 215s and a ported RPM air gap. It was running 10.70s in a well setup 67 Camaro...We recently put that motor in a 62 Chevy II...we'll be running it soon...It should go 10s as well with a 200R4/3.73s.
I'm curious to see your progress. As consistant as you are, you will notice every gain you make...

Only thing about the cam change is it will change your powerband, if your converter is real tight, it "could" hurt your 60'/330'.... OR it could pick you up power all the way across the powerband because it is so choked right now.
I personally think a cam change will get you 11.90s if the converter allows it to leave...

Was it cold air?
Did u change the metering rods between runs or before all of the runs? May have been the cold winter air. If your experimenting maybe try a A/F meter before a new cam and get mixture dailed in.
Glad to read your new headwork is getting u better results. Hope to read your in the 11's soon.

BTW have u raced any new C5 or C6's? I bet your a match or at least a tough race for them.

ajrothm - Thanks. The 262 cam is 218/224 @ .050 and .470 lift. My converter is 3,000 stall, by Transmission Specialties in PA. I want to see what the 1.6 rockers do for it. Like you said, I'm widdling down the ETs.No more racing till mid March. How about you?
cardo0 - I changed rods before I went to the track. I was racing a few weeks ago, in warmer air, with leaner rods, and running 12.60. Tuning for the better air helps. Overall, my car will run 4 tenths slower from high 40s air to high 80s. I have raced a number of C5 and C6s. With drag radials and minor mods they are as fast or faster than my car. I ran a C6 ZR1 (638hp) on a time shot once. Due to a better light and a better launch, I had him covered for 300 ft. Then it was all over. He ran 128mph.
bluzman - There was one other C3 racing on Sat. He had a huge scoop on the hood and looked like he should be going 9s, but was actually in the high 11s. Still quicker than me though.
