Default Insulating an A/C box

Has anyone insulated an A/C box? It seems awfully close to the engine, and I think some kind of high-temp insulating material would be a great way to keep the car cooler.

BTW: Who the heck needs a heater core in a C3? Just open the vents and let the engine heat flow in!

Haven't done it yet but sounds like a good idea to me.

I've seen the ideal stuff on some of the older full-size GM cars especially made for this. I'm going to try the dismantlers for this one.

Heat? I don' care bout no stinkin' heat! The heater core can go in the trash for all I care! All I want is COLD COLD COLD A/C. We're already into the upper 90's around here...and I NEED a Vette that's nice and coooool inside.

The seal on the hood is good. The passenger side vent is closed nice 'n tight. My baby's HVAC system is in great shape. But it's time to improve on the original... :smash:

There are two ways to insulate the evaporator box.
If you are doing other work and have the engine out, open up the evap box and clean out all the crap. Install some bubble insul from Home Depot on the inside of the part facing the engine.
Some late model cars and trucks I've seen insulate the outside of the evap box with a refelctive blanket similar to what Summit sells to prevent heat soak in starters. This is obviously much easier and should be very effective.
