Default Fuel hard line install and mini tool review

My buddy and I spent most of the day yesterday building new hard lines for my 71 BB. I'm really happy with the results. It has more of a factory look and I feel a little safer now. Props to Lars and the other forum members for the tips and tricks.

3/8" lines and T.

C4 filter as prescribed by Lars. Although this is the GF652 and not the GF481. I believe the only difference is the GF652 is stainless. Had to get these adapters to convert the GM F.I. fittings from Napa to inverted flare.

New factory Big Block pump installed with return line operational again.

Used this flare tool from Summit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-900310/

It worked OK, but only after some fiddling. Initially, the clamp was not holding the tubing in place while making the flare. Because the 3/8" slot is in the middle of the two wing nuts, the bars flex and don't clamp down enough. I ended up having to use a C-Clamp to add enough clamping force to hold the tube in place. With this figured out, the flaring went well enough. But I don't think I can recommend this flare tool.

OTC 180 degree tube bender from Summit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/OTC-6515/

This tool however worked very well. Had no problems bending the 3/8 lines and it was very easy to measure and make correct bends.

Very nice job! What type and thickness of tubing did you use?

Looks very professional and best of all no rubber lines. What are the NAPA part #'s on the adapters? I need to get a set of those for another project.

Great job, I like hard lines after the pump. That last tube from the pump to filter looks great. How much time and how many tubes did you make to get one that looks that good?

That looks great. Those double flares were tricky and took me a couple of tries until I finally got it. Safer and better looking than rubber lines. That was a very helpful write-up by Lars.

Looks real nice , I like the stock look.
If you want a chrome like finish , I used Wenol metal polish on that type of tubing and it looked pretty good.

That one I bought from a vendor. It's the factory replacement. I just cut it where the filter went in. Even though, it took a while to get the bends right.

I bought the tubing from Napa and it's 40 thousands.

The Napa part# is WH 1446. They're made by a company called Weatherhead.

Here's a picture.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I was thinking they would look better polished.

Looks great. I tried that one upon a time and was able to collapse the tubing with stunning regularity. It's a skill I hope to develop at some point.

I'm told if you fill the tube with fine sand you can get a bit of a mandrel bending effect.

so the filter in the pic is a stock C4 filter that can be had anywhere ? what micron does it filter to ? paper element that you replace or does the whole unit get replaced ?

I believe it's 4 micron. That's what the Napa equivalent is. It's designed for fuel injection, so I would image it filters pretty well. No, it's sealed so you have to replace the whole thing.

That goes to the vapor canister.

Getting ready to do the very same job....yours looks great ! I had already found the cheaper "fuel distribution block" than what the corvette dealers sell for 60.00. Even if it is a T fitting not a Y !

Ported source to vapor canister ? I guess it's just bleeding off some excess fuel vapor ? A stock 71 thing ?
