Default Short vs Long Water Pump

hi

I have a nice small block, complete with accessories, pulleys etc.

Can I swap this into a 69 Corvette with a long water pump, will I have clearance issues with using a long water pump and its accessories?

Thanks

Nope, short water pump only for a Corvette or you hit the frame crossover.

Iam not sure if the frame is different on a 69, compared to my 78 vette frame, but ive got a long water pump on, without any clearance issues

Hi Dave,

I understand that the frames are almost identical from 1963 to 1982. Can you post a photo of yours?

That may help explain which pulleys are driving any accessories too.

i think the big thing you have to watch is that if you try to take the accessory brackets from your corvette and put them on the new engine with the long pump they won't line up. You need to take the whole assembly (alternator bracket, P/S brackets, etc) and keep them consistent with the long pump.

the power steering bracket lined up fine, needed new pulleys for the water pump and a new bracket for the alt, also the crank pulley is new to suit a long pump setup

I have a complete long water pump set up now on the engine, so maybe I will swap it in and see what I have for clearance issues if any. Anyone have a long water pump set up in a 68 or 69? thanks, Tim

I was under the impression that long water pumps were fine for small block cars. I could be wrong so take that advice with a little caution.

Nope, the matching crank pulley will hit the crossmember.

ok, so I will need a short water pump set up, what should I use for a 69? is that the ultra short one? it appears two different variations were made?
