What oil filter do you use...
I know you all hate these dumb polls, but they're good for getting a quick idea of what everyone thinks. I was just wondering what oil filters my fellow Vette lovers use. I used to use Fram until I read a less than flattering review on them in a post on this forum. I'm wondering if I should be using something other than the good old ACDelco.
Please post a response if you feel strongly in favor or strongly against a particular oil filter.
Thanks all!

There usually is a longer and shorter version of the same filter. If you have enough room the longer filter will allow more filter area and a bit more oil capacity. With my headers the longer filter would be too close to the header tube for my comfort so I use the shorter version. If yur runnin stock maniffolds the longer ones usually fit fine.

Re: What oil filter do you use... (Leos 81)
I used to work for Puralator Products. Made the very oil filters that you are talking about. Worked the end of the line (where the filters are powder coated with the different logos). Watched the same filters roll off of the same line get powder coated with ACDelco, Mobile 1, Fram, and several other names. There is no difference between the high end filters. There is, however a big difference between the low end. Filters for the "big box" (Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc.) are made with...let's just say...not the very best of the raw materials. This is my 2 cents, but it's not an opinion. Watched it for years.

I use WIX on everything. If there good enough for a Multi-Million dollar Oil Platforms, there good engough for my motors.

Jvette, a local chain known as Republic auto parts handles the hastings in my area. Let me know, I have a commercial account with them, I can get you some.

Dana (atleast in Canada) has been manufacturing filters for AC Delco, Mopar, Ford etc for 50+ years. I've got some cutaways comparing Fram and Dana that I should take pictures of. There really is a difference.

Re: What oil filter do you use... (Jvette73)
i just bought a Hastings air filter for my '74 vette last week. When I bought it at the little auto parts store up the street, i thought to myself "who the hell is Hastings" -- But at this point I don't care...my vette is on the road once a week at the most....I will probably do the K&N oil/air filter thing as soon as i get my engine/paint/interior work done, for now the vette will sit in the garage...It looks like a delco oil filter on my baby right now. I went out to my little garage tonight to do some work on her...The only thing i have done the past 2 weeks (since i got her) was looked at her with my mouth open! I CAN'T BELIEVE I OWN THIS BEAUTIFUL MACHINE!!! For now, nothing is getting done!!! You probably already assumed...this is my first Vette, and I am so PROUD! :hat :) :) :)

71,454,4spd , thanks for the note on availability of Hastings products. I just wasnt sure if they were still in buisness. Since they are, im sure with a little research I would be able to find the here locally. Very busy urban area here and one can find anything reletivley close by if you look hard enough. Again I will state that in the past I have heard from # of reputable sources of the quality of Hastings pruducts. Its funny though how many people have never even heard of them.

ComputerGuy,
Mobil 1 filters advertise that they use a synthetic element that filters down to 5 microns. True or not true?

I use only the fram hp2....it is very different from the cheaper versions....seems to make the point that it isn't the label that counts,it's what is in side that matters...john :chevy

eleven79:
1 year, 1 month after getting my (1st) Vette, I still sit in the garage looking at it & think "I still can't believe it's ALL MINE!!!" (I'm also thinking "Why, oh why, did I take so much of it apart?", but that's another story.....)

I use Hastings, get them from the little place down the street ( Welle on Central Ave for you Minnesota guys )
They are well built filters, and even filter pretty well according to a few studies I've seen.
BUT I may switch to Amsoil, once I see their price, since theirs filters even better...
Oh and Wix fitlers are in the top 5 I think...

Chicken wire fiters 'down to 5 microns' too  but like Molbil 1 they don't filter much at that level...
Mobil 1 filters rate pretty low in the tests I've seen...

Hi volume/pressure oil pump can blow some filter tops. WIX will not blow. It's all I use on the vert. :chevy
