Default stock air cleaner

I am replacing the air filter assembly on a 73, L-82. Should the stock cover be black, or chrome ?

I know a guy with NCRS from Masillon, OH that may have the answer for you. Do a FORUM search on 'Borosky'; first name 'Paul' and drop him a note. He will tell you for sure.

I am thinking on buying a Holley 4165 0-6210 double pumper 650 to replace my Quadarajet on my 68 327 L79. My concern is if the factory air cleaner assembly will clear all the working parts of the Holley seeing that it drops down 2" from where it seats on the Q Jet and is molded around it. Thanks ahead of time for the feedback.

if your going for n.c.r.s judging , you might ask for a recommendation on what exact paint brand etc. gm cars have probably 4 or 5 types of semi gloss black under the hood. and i imagine some difference exists in gloss too.

I put a 650 DP on my 69 350/350 and the PVC tube of the air cleaner slightly interfered with the rear accelerator pump linkage. I made a seal out of vacuum hose to sit the air cleaner on and it solved the problem.

For less than the cost of the Holley, you can buy a rebuild kit for your Qjet and end up with a far better carb than the Holley will ever be. And you won't have any clearance problem either.

Do your research before you decide to ditch the Qjet, they're a much underrated carb to those who don't know about them.

Regards from Down Under.

Dr. Dobbins also has a volume on the 68-72 cars; also good.
