Default Exhaust manifold gasket for SBC 400

Hello all, I have an early 70's sbc 400 in my vette, will the exhaust manifold gasket for all sbc fit? or are there different gaskets for the 350 and 400. Also my car has headers on it, would the stock manifold gasket work or is there a special gasket for headers?

Default gaskets

Hi I have a 1973 400 truck block in my car with afr heads and Hooker side pipe headers.I use standard sbc header gaskets. Only time I had a problem was when I lost a header bolt.Blew out the gasket on a far from home trip.I now carry spare bolts and tool to do the job. John

I had to replace the header gaskets much to often. until I Cleaned the header flange & head surfaces very clean and used hi-temp silicone. no more blown gaskets again. Good luck

Don't use the traditional header gaskets....they're garbage.
Use the kind of gasket that has a fibre/metal composition. The ones I use I get for $10 at Canadian Tire. They work great and don't blow out.....just keep tabs on the header bolts for a few weeks, and then they should keep tight.

Thanks, but my question remains, are there exhaust gaskets made specifically for headers or can you use regular exhaust manifold gaskets, are they the same gasket or is there a difference? Are there gaskets specifically for headers as opposed to stock manifolds?

Yes, there are gaskets made for headers. Check, Mr Gasket, Felpro, Hedman, and several other companies. Just about any well-equipped auto parts store chain should have them. Measure the size and shape of the port opening in your headers before you go shopping. The holes in header gaskets come in many different sizes and shapes, and you want one that most closely matches the ports in your headers.

To my knowledge, stock manifolds don't have gaskets from the factory.
