Default '77 Exhaust Questions

I'm in the process of buying a 1977 with L48 and auto from a forum member, so I don't have the car yet. One of the first things I'd like to do is to lose the cat and go back to true dual exhaust. Does the 77 still have the crossmember with holes on either side, or are they on the same side like the later years? Also, what is the best sounding muffler? I'd like a deep, throaty sound but not too loud or droning on the highway. I was thinking about the Walker Dynomax, does anyone have them on their car? Thanks for helping a new guy!
