Default 3" Brake ducts on my '69

Just about done with the brake ducts for my vette. Heres some pics-

Dust shields cut away, and 3" exhaust tubing welded in place. I had to oval the tube to direct all of the air to the center of the rotor.

I bought 10 feet of 300* 3" brake duct (Just barely enough) and ran it from my front brake ducts up inside the frame rails and over the control arms.

I had to clearance the inner fender so that my control arm doesnt crush the tubing. You can just barely see the cut at the top of the picture.

And for those of you wondering where my brake ducts are in the front... Heres a teaser shot... Still need to finish that up
(dont mind the rust )

Looks like a lot of work. Is it for a special purpose or just for fun?

A real race winning historic Vette came through the shop last week and I was interested in it's air duct routing for possible changes to mine.

It came off like yours in the back with the same three inch hose. It went straight up to the top of the wheel well. They had drilled two holes to safety wire the hose to the upper a-arm. The air duct followed the wheel well and then forward to non grilled air inlet.

Yes, they cool the brakes to prevent them from overheating when racing.

If Im understanding this correctly, the ducts (on this racecar) stay on the outside of the frame rails, and stay inside the wheel wells? I looked into running it like that but the tires would rub it at full lock. Not necessarily a problem for a racecar that wont turn the wheels that much. Same with the grill on the duct... Since my car is primarily a street car, I didnt want any road debris to get in there.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but don't you need special veined rotors that will draw the air out from the center to take advantage of the air that is being blown to them? Those ducts with stock rotors will do nothing b/c the rotors will not allow the air to flow thru the middle of the rotor surfaces.

Looks good, now you just have to drag yourself away from Snookie, Ronnie and the gang and come to NJMP on April 1st and test it out :-)

Consider this a correction.
