Default Vac. Canister Rebuild Help

I want to replace the seals on the headlight actuator canisters. I bought the kit. It comes with a retention ring to hold the seal in-place. Does anyone have advise on removal of the old ring so I can remove the seal without damage to the canister?

Thanks bruiser. I read through the article. I noticed this was related to a 1973. Mine is a 1968 and the cone seal is facing into the canister on both actuators. Also the shaft in the article appears to be longer. I am wondering if this is why the cone seal now faces out. Also I see no retaining ring on either actuator. Is there a difference between the years from 68 to 73? There is a ring but it is spot welded or affixed to the canister in some fashion. I'm guessing that the tabs on the ring in the kit bend over the edge of the fixed ring? Any in put would help because after reading more question need to be clarified.
