Default Winter Storage Ends! My 1979 is Coming Out...

Tomorrow after almost six months in commercial storage. I have not seen it since October. It is 0C (32F) tonight but it looks like 14C (~54F) tomorrow. Albeit with rain. But I have an obligation to get it to a local spring car show on Thursday. It will be detailed at a GM dealer where I work and ready for the show later this week. Realistically the driving season does not begin until May 1 or so but the show pressed me into action prematurely this year and so be it.

I admit that I am a member of the Old Farts Club (OFC) but the annual spring roll-out never gets less exciting. The V8 symphony in C major on initial fire-up gives me the....well it sends adrenalin through the circulatory system. And a big smile. Ohhhh, what a feeling! You Southern USA people do not know that feeling ;) .

Joe,
Don't say things like that. I still have snow on my lawn! But we are getting a good rain wash tonight to get most of the salt off the streets.

*Edit*-BTW, I do not consider you "south."

Just like a kid on Christmas morning, eh Paul!

Another couple of weeks and mine will be out. Just gotta put the engine back together. I was supposed to get the heads back together tonight but the valve seals I got were the wrong ones.... So I'll return them when I pick up my head gaskets, oil pan gasket and distributor curve kit that were on back order.

Have fun at the show.

Mine is still waiting to come out. She is in the garage awaiting most of the sand to clear off the streets. Probably 2 weeks or less.

It has been torture seeing her in the garage waiting to get out on the streets.

Winter really Sucks up here in the North!

Congrats Paul, I had the convertible out yesterday with the top down. :) We have winter, it just doesn't last as long.

Mike,
Good analogy! Yes, just like unwrapping presents. It the old axiom: "I may be getting old but I will never grow up." Our Corvette Club met last evening for the final organization details. Looks like fun. We will be doing the C1-C5 thing:
1962 Fuelie (C1)
1963 Split Window Coupe (C2)
1979 L-82 (mine, the C3)
1993 Vert (C4)
2002 Yellow Vert (C5)

Should be fun. I will post pics.

Tom,
Yes, I am going to let all 225hp of unaltered, unmolested L-82 power roar. But Ganey may still convince me to do a cam thing.... ;) .

I like to close threads when I open them so here goes. The 1979 came out at noon today in 50 degree but rainy weather. The ride was not nice with the wet roads but it was a great feeling just to see her again. Wow, she's pretty. Even if just a 1979....Had to add that; the runt or runtess of the C3 litter according to many.

The commercial storage people had done a great job and I have a record of start-ups and trickle charges since last October. The battery eye (hydrometer) is even green. The GM dealer detailer did his magic (I supplied the Zaino) and the old girl looks great! Runs like a charm. Bring on the summer!!

The rights of spring in the north!! I've driven mine at least once each month, often a lot more, just because we've had so many days with no snow or salt lying around. Not with the top down yet, but that will come on the weekend seeing it's going to be well into the 60's in the Toronto area, so I hear!! I will also wash the dust off it from sitting in my garage, seeing I don't use a cover!! I can hardly wait!!

Maybe this weekend for mine. I'd like to get some more rain to wash the salt off the roads, but it is starting to get warm!

Good luck.
