My 77 had heat tube style choke not electric. Mine with a Q-jet choke was an issue but I found the heat tube was stopped up and wouldn't let heat up to choke so it didn't release right.
cleaned the tube out--which was a royal pain--but it sure helped things. finally put a Holley on w/electric choke.
Might want to check?????

Best solution would be to fix the Q-Jet though (if it really needs fixing). The Edelbrock "non"-Performer carb is a copy of the old Carter AFB that dates back to the 50's. A lot less sophisticated than the Q-Jet. You will give up mileage and power. Plus, you will need a manifold adapter, new aircleaner, and new fuel line.
90% of "carb" problems are actually ignition issues. Get the ignition system set right and get a carb rebuild kit from Cliff Ruggles.
You will save lots of money and the car will perform much better.

An electric choke is way better. As for a replacement carb, I would consider the Holley 0-9895 (4175).

Go with the Holley 650 CFM 4175 Vacuum secondaries spreadbore replacement for the Qjet-I have had mine for 25 years and it was superior to my Qjet that came on the car. Simple, effective, easy to tune, good power, good mileage-easy to rebuild-just did mine after 25 years on the car. The 4175 Holley is a direct replacement for the Qjet. Why do people who do not want Qjets go for all these other carbs for street driven C3's?

because im not turning it into a track car and ive been told that you have to be very careful with the holleys and if you gunk them up then you have problems
