Default C3 LS1 swap oil pan question

I am putting a 5.3 liter truck motor in my '76. I've seen throughout the forum that I will not be able to use the stock truck oil pan. Is this because the pan is too deep in the front, or too deep in the back or what? Can any of you guys who have done a swap help me out with this one? I have the capability to cut the pan off if it is too deep on the back end ,and then weld it back together to make it shorter. If this is possible I have another question. Has anyone ever modified the pick up tube?

Thanks

Patrick

If you can provide the part number for the oil pan I might be able to give you some more info. I have dimensions for a number of different oil pans and I can compare to the F-body pan that I know fits in the C3 frame.

I used a Camaro oil pan, the 2004 LS1 Corvette Batwing pan would not clear the stock steering. Easy replacement, don't forget the dip stick,

The back of the truck oil pan is way too deep. If you go to LS1tech.com oil pan sticky you can see others that have modified the truck pans. You'll have to shorten the pickup tube and you'll lose quite a bit of capacity though.I went with the 02 corvette batwing pan on my 68. You can find them for about $100 on ebay or LS1tech.

ls1 oil pan and pickup tube is the way to go. not that expensive and you wont have to modify anything.

I've been pricing the camaro oil pans, and you would think they were made out of gold. I found one for a good price at a junk yard in Texas, and as they got it off the shelf they dropped and broke it. Oh well.

That's usually my luck.

As posted earlier, I forgot, you need to swap the pick-up.

I bit the bullet and just got one from the dealer, it also has an expensive gasket you'll need.

Hope that helps,

Frank

You'll end up with a 4qt pan if you cut it down. I cut mine down, then had to add some in front of the sump and it ended up looking just like the Camaro pan. Now it's been skipped off the ground a couple times and it leaks where a weld is cracking. The F-body pan is the best bet.
