Hello everyone... I am looking to get a nice distributor and I wanted to see what all of you recommend? I need it to have a vacuum and tach. I would like something the gives good performance with good looks. Only performance upgrades on the car is Edelbrock 21011 intake manifold and a Holley 4160c Carb w/electric chock. Thank you

I like the Pertronix or the MSD billet distributors.
Pertronix has vacuum advance provision but I don't think they make one with tach drive.
MSD or Mallory should make some with tach drives but most of those won't have a vacuum advance can.
Distributors with both options are quite rare, and it's gonna narrow your choices...

You could check on SummitRacing web site and see what you get...
Their search engine if very easy to use and has a lot of options to choose from...

Also... Im trying to find a part name.... its the 3 way vacuum fitting that bolts onto the intake manifold... one of the tubes runs to the distributor... Any ideals? Thanks everyone!

Are you buying a new one because your existing one is unrepairable, you're looking for something 'prettier', or expecting a horsepower boost?

If it's the last choice, save your money.

the stock hei (if you have one) is a great unit.

I dont mind to stay stock but how would I clean it up so it looks as good as the rest of the engine?

Yeah... the original works but we are re-modeling ( ) the engine with chrome and polished new parts and the distributor that is on it now is old and does not look like it belongs. If I could re-build it and make it look better that would be good. I dont know how much hp boost we would gain from a new one if at all?

I did find the little part I was looking for .. its called the Intake Vacuum Fitting (W/AC, Automatic Transmission & Power Brake)

If you want to keep the stock look, the HEI distributor is fine, and you won't need anything else.
The Mallory distributor has a magnetic pickup, which means you will also have to buy :
- A compatible ignition box ( like MSD-6AL for instance, $200 )
- An ignition coil ( like MSD Blaster 2 HVC, $170 )
- Maybe new spark plug wires ( wires length will be slightly different with this dizzy ) ?
- Electrical wires and connectors ( a few more bucks )

+ All the necessary hardware and time to install that stuff...
So that's at least $315 + $200 + $170 = $685 instead of $290.
We're not talking about the same budget at all !

On the other hand, the Mallory is smaller than the stock HEI ( built-in coil ), so it will give you extra room if you have a large air cleaner.
Polished aluminum looks nice too. An aluminum hold-down clamp is a must with such a distributor, but again that means more bucks

So, think about it and make your choice...
