which cam
Hello, I'm finishing up the motor in my 73 vette, running 186 double humps and a 670 street avenger on a torker 2 manifold, but I can't seem to make a final decision on the cam. Its going to be a flat tappet cam. Would like to hear some suggestions on a cam and what you think the
final horsepower would be with this setup.....Tks...........Troy

Melting Slicks
Absolutely. A long duration cam in a car with 3.08 gears and 8.5 to 1 compression will be a real dog in traffic. It would sound good at idle, but your grandmother could out-run it for a little bit. 3.55 or lower (numerically higher) gears and 9.5 or 10 to 1 compression with a 214 to 224 degree duration cam and 445 to 460 lift would be pretty good. That's similar to the factory LT-1 solid lifter cam specs but I would recommend a hydraulic grind. A little lumpy\fussy around town but a lot of fun otherwise. A higher stall converter would be in order for an automatic (1978-ish Z/28 would work and be cheap, I assume) or a 4-speed would work OK as is.
Just my two cents...
