Default Metal Fan on CS144?

I would like to use the fan pictured with my new CS144 it is from my SI alternator along with the pulley. Size (diameter) doesnt seem to be an issue (it is same diameter as the cs144 fan). Will this be OK though? Will it cool as well as the PLastic CS144 fan? If not where could I get a metal fan that would work?

THanks

Bobby

I got a metal fan on my early made CS144 which is in my car since almost 3 years now with no problems at all.

Your compressor hangs way out there. I assume when adjusted inward, your lower hose is clear.

Keep the fan that's on your CS144. They flow a LOT more air than the sheetmetal fans like your 10SI has and they need it for cooling. If you swap them you will significantly shorten the life of your new alternator and may even burn it up under a high load.

(It must be CS144 day on the forum.)

dont worry about that, I got it fixed

Actually I took this pic to demonstrate to some forum member how the stock position of these brackets with the recommended 62 in. belt would look, now I changed the position of the compressor forward and used the 3rd W/P groove instead.

Default CS144 are FWD alts

Sorry gentlemen, most of you are wrong. The CS144 is used on front wheel drive cars with a sideways engine and the fan helps cool it....Vettes as you know are rear wheel drive cars, thus the steel fan.....

what am I looking for......as I already stated the plastic fans are for FWD cars with a sideways engine not for rear wheel drive cars. The exception is a Caddie Eldo FWD 500 ci V8 unless you didn`t understand my first post.....You can make almost any alternator fit anywhere.....A Vette simply needs the steel fan because its a rear wheel drive V8 for proper cooling....
